Core Ordering Systems For Researchers:

| JoslinResearch.org
is dedicated to providing easy and rapid
retrieval and updating of information.
Furthermore, a major emphasis is to
provide the capability for administrating
the site in a distributed manner. This
means that any appropriately authorized
individual throughout the Joslin Diabetes
Center can immediately add, modify or
delete information presented on the
web site for which they are responsible.
This feature is provided through simple
and intuitive interfaces that require
absolutely no knowledge of web design
or web programming. Access to these
administrative features is fully password-protected.
The significant benefit of this approach
is the ease of timely and accurate updating
of information, as the responsible individuals
are empowered to make necessary changes.
Instead of having to funnel all modifications
through a single web development location,
this system distributes the web administration
features across the entire Joslin Diabetes
Center. The results of this approach
can be seen on the pages of Joslin
Investigators, who are able to alter
the information displayed about their
research, add and manage links related
to their work, and perform a number
of other customizations, all while preserving
integrity of formatting among all investigator
pages. |

| PINet
was created to address the problem of
maintaining current information about
individuals, groups and their projects
at the Joslin Diabetes Center, while
presenting this information with a consistent
format. Since details of investigators'
efforts are under constant revision,
it is impractical to use traditional
means of maintaining these details on
the web as this would necessitate an
excessive administrative burden of communication
between those represented on the web
and the webmaster. JoslinResearch.org
bypasses these administrative difficulties
by empowering Investigators and others
to modify their own information on the
web whenever necessary, without having
to communicate the need for this change
to a webmaster. |
| Accessed
through the"Information" menu
in the top navigation bar or on the
JoslinResearch.org homepage; Administrative
access is limited to the individual
or group to whom a page belongs. |
