Application Systems Analyst II/III (LAMP)

Duties And Responsibilities: The Joslin Diabetes Center Bioinformatics Core seeks a highly motivated and energetic individual to join a team supporting various bioinformatics applications for data analysis and management. Able to understand complex data management and analysis workflows. Will collaborate with scientific, bioinformatics and software development personnel to provide creative solutions to novel problems. Together with other members of the team, contributes to the design, development, implementation, and testing of database driven web applications.  You will also participate in a data warehouse project, particularly aimed at integrative data mining using information from both Research and Clinical studies.


Required Education, Experience and Skills: B. S./M. S. in computer science or related, masters preferred. 3-5 years design experience developing web based database applications. Must have demonstrable skills with open source software. Experience with the LAMP stack, interests extending beyond (Rails, etc) encouraged. Proficiency with PERL, PHP, MySQL/Postgres required. Additional experience with other open source tools desired. Experience with and ability to train others on standard database operations, including backup, recovery, disk management, and index restructuring. Ability to analyze and resolve database performance issues. Familiarity with managing production databases in a regulated environment (HIPAA) a plus. Experience in the design and development of web-based applications, forms, and reports that access databases and data warehouses desired
