Bioinformatics Research Assistant- DERC Bioinformatics Core

Duties And Responsibilities: The Joslin Diabetes Center Bioinformatics Core seeks a highly motivated and energetic individual to join a team providing bioinformatics  support, and development to the Center’s biological sciences research community. Provides support on bioinformatics-related concepts, applications, and tools. Collaborates and consults with researchers to analyze genomic, proteomic or genetic problems, and design computational strategies for a wide range of biological research. Together with other members of the team, contributes to the design, development, implementation, and testing of biocomputing tools as part of the Center's computational biology initiative.  You will also participate a data warehouse project, particularly aimed at integrative data mining using information from both Research and Clinical studies


Required Education, Experience and Skills: An M. S./Ph.D. in bioinformatics or biology with demonstrable computational skills or an M. S./Ph.D. in computer science with a strong interest in biology. Experience with web-based bioinformatics tools, public-domain biological databases and software tools for sequence, domain and microarray analysis. Extensive familiarity with, and development of, computational tools in biology that use genomic data to generate biological hypotheses. Demonstrated experience in supporting interdisciplinary collaborations. Experience with one or more of;  C, C++, PERL, Python, S+, R, Ruby, Java, SQL. Experience with bioinformatics software development preferred.

The candidate will show an eagerness and aptitude for learning new systems and technical subjects. The ability to work with and assist faculty and student researchers of varied backgrounds and computer proficiencies is a must. The ideal candidate will maintain a detail-oriented and disciplined approach to providing support, and an attitude of customer service and quality at all times.
